There are truly very simple ways to make fitness & health a part of your life. I'm all about cutting through the crap of the industry that tends to make things hyper-complicated and confusing.
I'm not a fan of supplements, powders, widgets, wraps or magic bullets (magic fairy dust, yes, but no magic bullets). I'm a fan of whole real foods. Elements that come from the earth that work in harmony with your body, the way we are designed to do.
Warm lemon water in the morning is one of those cheap and easy pieces that can easily be a part of any morning schedule and become a lovely ritual for your wellness. Here's why:
If one single thing is going to have you feeling AMAZING within 24 hours…IT’S WATER!
Water is essential
60-70% of our bodies are made up of water. 85% of our brain tissue is water. It's the only liquid we need in order to thrive and survive. Everything else is simply want or entertainment. Don't get me wrong, I drink coffee, I drink an occasional alcoholic beverage but I know those are fun and celebratory and more about my emotions then my optimal health. It's truly a waste of money to be drinking anything aside from water or gorgeously clean teas (for your health). You'll see me drink other beverages, but rarely. The reality is your body only needs water in order to thrive. We choose other options for entertainment and quality of life. I'm for all of them but when you want fitness & wellness results, water, water, water yourself like a spring flower.
Water is necessary
Hydration flushes your system of daily toxins. It keeps things running smoothly and prevents your system from getting sick. Flushing your system energizes you, allows you to workout stronger and even longer; water is essential for healthy digestion, nutrient absorption and it lubricates your joints to take away and prevent pain.
Water is free. It's simple. It cuts down on caloric intake and it alleviates that afternoon energy slump (2-4pm) when you typically grab another cup of coffee or high sugar treat to keep you going. You could loose 2-15 lbs (depending on the body) simply by getting hydrated because you're flushing out all the crap in your system.
A hydrated body is perkier and more focused. Water hydrates the brain tissue and helps you be more alert and aware. Water plumps the skin and improves fine lines and acne. Water improves cardiovascular health by increasing blood volume. The list goes on and on.
Why lemon in the water?
Lemon water has a whole other set of fab benefits to have you feeling amazing all day long. One of its main benefits is that it boosts your metabolism if you drink it first thing in the morning. You'll actually burn more calories throughout your day. Lemon water alkalizes a body. Alkaline systems are healthier and create an environment that does not breed sickness (especially cancer). Water is fab for your colon and liver functions and lowers all over inflammation in the body. Lowering inflammation is HUGE for fitness results and overall health. It's also a major cleanse for your liver first thing in the morning to help your system either get back to optimum functioning or allow it to stay that way.
Pucker up first thing in the morning!
Drink 8 ounces of water with fresh lemon juice every morning before you eat or drink anything else. Cut a lemon in half and squeeze it into your cup. Yes, it has to be a real lemon. No essential oils. No concentrates. Real. Lemon.
Hydrate your body with half of your body weight in ounces of water a day. Not tea, coconut water, nor bubble or sparkling waters, just still, filtered, bought, tap, or alkaline simple WATER you not only do yourself a major favor in the realm of wellness and how your organs function but you could also loose 2-15lbs of waste your body may have been stashing (if you're dehydrated.....which most bodies are)....I see you running for your water bottle now!
Note: #betterisbetter on this one. If you have a challenging time getting your full ounces of water in each day get as close to it as you can and work your way up to the full ounces. Your fitness & wellness is not a race. Take your time. Layer in the new habits. Practice the new habits to cultivate mastery and build on your wins!
